The first 2024 KREP meeting is scheduled for Friday, March 1, from 10:30 a.m. - noon. The topic will be Water Quality and New Permit Requirements in the Kishwaukee River Watershed. The following provides a bit of background:
How stormwater is managed has a direct impact on water quality in our streams and rivers. The regulatory mechanism of the Clean Water Act that addresses stormwater is their Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit program.
All Counties, along with many Municipalities and Townships, in the Kishwaukee River watershed are required to maintain MS4 Permits with the IEPA. The MS4 program serves as a guide to help communities improve water quality in their watersheds. Even communities that are not currently required to maintain MS4 permits, should be following similar practices to reduce pollution.
The IEPA will be initiating their new MS4 permit program in March 2024. The new MS4 permits will have more stringent requirements that will likely affect staffing and budgets.
Join us for the March 1, 2024 KREP meeting to learn more about the MS4 program and the proposed changes that will be part of the new IEPA permits. Scott Kuykendall, Water Resources Specialist for McHenry County, will provide a visually rich presentation with a detailed overview of the MS4 program and how it can help restore water quality in the Kishwaukee River watershed.

Many thanks for your consideration.
I believe Scott works for the Land & Soil
I plan attending this. Original I thought it might be an opportunity to address Kilbuck with EPA but it kind of sounds to be more of an administrative type thing?
