Hello. New member here. I came across a blog in search of new fishing opportunities around the Rockford area. I rarely fish the kish, but started to this year... Have yet to catch anything. Spent some time in apple river catching smallies last weekend. That was great. I enjoy lakes more than rivers, but so far this year, the rivers are starting to grow on me.
What I seek? I'm looking for groups to go out river fishing. Learn new waters, techniques, etc. I wade wet and have a Bonafide SS127 that's rigged up nice. I primarily fish with baitcaster or spincaster. Would like to learn fly fishing. If anyone is bored and want to meet up some day somewhere, i'd be down for it.
Fun fact: I caught my personal best smallie in Door County on a 6" junebug curly tail worm texas rigged. It measured 23" at 7lbs.
Tight lines all-
Jesse
I am free anytime. I'll meet you where ever. Thanks!
I would start off with a 5wt. WF Floating Line. Maybe we can hook up sometime and you can try a couple of mine out.
Any recommendations on fly rod/reel for the Kish?
Welcome! A 23 inch smallmouth is a very special smallmouth! Congrats!! The Kish is a nice little smallmouth river that has and can produce trophy size smallmouth. Fun river to learn on. Smallmouth on a fly are fun as hell.
