SPANKED BY A RIVER RUN HIGH

DSCF6213.jpg

Decided to load up the gear and try to wade the creek for a couple hours before work. I checked the gages before I left, so I knew the water was going to be up and stained, but sometimes you just have to see it with your own eye and make a judgment call at the on the shore line. I pulled into the park, pulled on my boots, grabbed my rod, and began to make my way to the creek. It's been way too long since I have stepped foot in water, and the absence of a smallmouth tug on my line is beginning to hurt my marriage.

I stood on the bank of the little creek and watched as the chocolate milk looking water raced by me at a high velocity of speed. My legs ached to be wrapped in current, but it just wasn't going to happen on this day. The water level is just too damn high. I made a few casts from shore with whatever the hell it was I had tied onto the end of my line, I got bit by a mosquito, and ran back to my car like a little girl.

I had time to burn, so I decided to checkout the Kish north branch, and that was pretty much in the same shape as the creek. I stood on a rock and tossed - tubes, poppers, buzzbait, spinnerbait, and rattle traps, and didn't get one bite or chase. Think I might have to lower myself to seek out large mouth while the rivers run high.
