THE PERFECT CAST

Got out in the late afternoon for my up-stream paddle of the south branch.

The first cast with a topwater brought an explosion on the surface but no hook-up.

I cast to the area again and again I got a blow-up with no hook-up. One more cast to

the area got a hook-up with a tough fighting 13 incher. Action right off the bat, should be a good day.

I got to an area that I wanted to wade, so a attached Brandy to my waist and began working my way up-stream casting a topwater lure tight to the opposite bank. I hualed back to make a cast and as my arm and rod went forward, I heard a splash. "What the hell was that?", I thought to myself. After looking around the area I noticed that my second rod (set up with a tube) was gone. Are you kidding me?!!!

I had the butt of my second rod (the rod that is now gone) stuck in the rod pocket underneith my kayak seat. I had to have hook onto this rod perfectly to be able to pull it out of the pocket and cast it into the river with no resistance what-so-ever. I had to have hooked onto it so it was perfectly balanced, perfect angle, perfect everything. I spent about 20 minutes searching for the rod. Nothing.

I love to buy new fishing stuff anyway.

Area where rod was lost.

The next couple of hours of fishing was tough. The topwater turned off for some reason, I never saw another fish rise to the surface. Made my way back down-stream and found some action with the tube in a deep pool thatwas near fast current. Pulled out 3 smallmouth and called it a day. The 3 smallies were 1 @ 13 inches, and 2 @ 15 inches. I plan to look for the rod again in the next comming days.
