OPENING THE BOOKS ON 2016

Turned out to be a pretty nice outing. There was no wind or breeze blowing, the sky was wide opened with a full bright shinning sun, the birds were chirping, the gooses are flying north, I could even hear a bullfrog calling. Is this really February?

Not much happened as far as fishing goes. Water was stained, up and moving a tad fast. I started off tossing a green GM tube with an 1/8oz weight. I would cast upstream and let the current bring the tube downstream across a rubble bar with a drop off on the downstream side. At one point I did feel my line draw a heavy. Could this be? I tried to set the hook but there was nothing home. As I reeled in something spooked and made a big swirl on the waters surface. Probably a carp sitting on my line.

I can't believe I was actually out fishing for smallmouth in February but I was.

Let the 2016 Smallmouth Season begin!!!!!
