STEPPED FOOT IN WATER

Headed down to Kilbuck to cast a line but upon arrivale I found the gates still locked and people fishing at the bridge where I would put in. Considering that it was an old grampa style man with his little grand daughter of about 7 years of age and brand spanking new kids rod and reel combo just ripped out of the box, I decided to move on and seek out water else where.
I ended up on the south branch of the Kish and began to hike my way to a sandbar that I thought offer me good casting opportunities. As I hiked my way thru the praire I ran across some backwater that was tucked back in some trees. My first thought was that this was going to be a silty, sludgy, mess to wade through. As I began to step closer to the body of water, something broke the surface and made a big splash. I stood still for a while and watched V's shoot across the water. Not just one but a few. The must be carp, I thought to myself, but there could be a pike in there. I cast the area for about 20 minutes and found no action. I made my way around this backwater and found a horse trail that would lead me close to my sandbar. I stepped foot in water and could feel the coldness of this Kish wrap around my boot. I fished the area for about an hour and a half, crossing over to the opposite bank to seek some areas down stream. No fish were brought to hand this day.
It's not too often Feb 28th has an air temp of 60 degrees. Why not fish?
