Fly Rod Action

Pulled the fly rod out for the first time this year and hit the 'buck in search of some feisty smallmouth. I tied on a big heavy thing with purple eyes that my buddy JJ tied up. I wasn't getting action so I tied on a white unnamed steamer that JJ had also tied up and landed the first smallie of the day....

The smallie hit the fly while dabbling it on the tail end of a riffle. I didn't bother to tape it as it would have only gone about 10 inches. I moved up stream to another riffle area using the same dabbling technique and hooked into another smallie that went about 13 inches....

I worked my way up to another riff area and tried to see if I could get any action casting up stream the way it suppose to be done but couldn't find any takers. I got at the top of the riff and cast down stream letting the fly dabble in the current and nailed this beautiful 18 1/4 incher that put up one hell of a fight in the current......

Needless to say I left the creek a very happy man. I had to forfeit the fly as the smallie took it deep. Thanks for the fly JJ! Got more?
