Nice Fall Day

Got out for a spell on a stretch of the Kish south branch that I have never really waded. I watched a buddy of mine wade up this stretch after an ISA event and I have to admit that it kind of puzzled me.

The stretch really doesn't hold a lot of water, but my buddy is a damn good fisherman so I guess he knows what he's doing. This stretch is very shallow and is also is in need of some serious care as it is really choked off in many areas. I have read in FPWC meeting minutes that they plan to give this area the care that it need......

I really didn't think that I was going to catch anything. Most of the water just seemed dead with no flow to it. I decided to cast a topwater popper for the entire outing and was happy ( and surprised!) to land 6 smallies. There was no real size to them, but it's always fun snatching smallies off the top no matter the size....

I was very surprised to hook into this largemouth........

Although the smallies ( and largie) were all on the dink side, I had a great time spending a beautiful Fall day on the Kishwaukee River south branch.

Nothing ever seems to matter on days like this.
