I could tell from a distance that the river was was in great shape. The plan is to cast a JudeBug around and dedicate this outing to my good pal and forever fishing buddy, Jude (3/3/63 - 7/19/19).

I stepped foot in water right around 1pm and popped my first smallmouth of the day on the JudeBug pretty much right off the bat. She taped a little over 16 inches and was an absolute joy to bring in on the fly rod.

I was heading up-stream and had a lot of water that I wanted to cover. I took to the banks to move quicker and hiked my way up, stopping at known hot-spots for a few casts along the way. I hooked into a beast of a smallmouth that forced me to go to reel, as stripping the beast in wasn't working very well. The fight was awesome and aggressive, and pretty much dictated by the 18 inch smallmouth that seems to be having a hissy-fit on the end of my line.

18" Beast

I landed four (4) smallies in the first hour of this outing. Then things kinda died off for awhile. I was casting to what appeared to be good water with cement slab and limestone banks, but could not find any taker's. I even tied on one of my tube flies and bounced it of the bottom and chunks trying to entice something out. Nothing.

I ended the day with 9 smallmouth and was happy to pick up another quality smallie @ 17 inches on a white roadkill block-head popper.
