Sylvania Wilderness 2019

Sylvania Wilderness Trip 2019:

Did, done, and completed.

We ran into a few snags this year with a large number of our group of six (6) having to drop out leaving only myself and Michael G to carry the torch.

The first snag we ran into was locking up a trailer to pull my kayak after Jude had to drop. Kevin at Rocktown Adventure hooked me up with that

lending me his personal trail to make the trip. BIG THANKS goes out to Kevin for that one.

The second snag came after Ed B. drop leaving us with out a camp kitchen/shelter. Being that I am a retired man now, I sifted thru some junk in my shed and managed to put together a shelter that I ended up being quite impressed with.

We decided to move our trip time slot up a day early and leave a day early. We hit the road on Sunday (6/9) and arrived at the outfitters around 1pm. The third snag was hauling the extra stuff needed so I purchased a small inflatable tow raft to carry the extra gear that would not fit in my kayak. The tow wasn't too bad. Would have helped if I didn't have a strong wind blowing in my freaking face the entire paddle in, but it all worked out.

We set camp and ran into our fourth snag when Michael informed me that he thought it would be interesting to leave his tent poles at home.

We hit the water after camp was set and a bite to eat and both got into some dinky smallies.

Monday was the day to fight strong winds all day. I think we did have a short period of rain but it didn't keep us off the water for very long.

We each had a mix of smallmouth and largemouth with a sunfish or two along with a couple rockbass. I ended up snatching the biggest fish of the trip which was a largemouth that taped 19" on the Judebug.

Tuesday was the picture perfect day for fishing with great weather and a little rain shower during a later lunch but was able to get back on the water and fish until sunset. I ended up landing about 30 smallmouth on this day all ranging from 14 to 16.5 inches.

The forecast for Wednesday didn't look good with 90% rain chances, a high of 56, and temps dropping at night to 37 degrees w/12 to 14 mph winds over night.

We decided if we had a window when waking we would break camp and try to get the heck out.... And we did.
